Installation Options

Roof Mount vs. Ground Mount

Two ways to go solar. We install both and will help you choose the best option for your property.

Roof Mount

Panels installed directly on your existing roof. The most popular option for homeowners with suitable roof space.

  • Uses existing roof space, no yard footprint
  • Lower installation cost (no foundation needed)
  • Panels are less visible from the street
  • Ideal for urban properties with limited yard
  • Snow slides naturally on steep pitches

Ground Mount

Free-standing racking in your yard. Ideal when you have the space and want maximum performance.

  • Optimal angle and orientation for peak output
  • Never touches your roof — no shingle interaction, ideal if your roof is older or you plan to re-roof in the future
  • Easy ground-level maintenance and cleaning
  • Scalable: add more panels as your needs grow
  • Works regardless of roof condition or material

SaskPower Net Metering

You Use Your Solar First, Then Bank the Extra

Saskatchewan's net metering program lets you power your home directly with your panels, then send any excess to SaskPower as a credit.

How It Actually Works

Your panels power your home in real time first. Extra goes to SaskPower as a credit. When you need more than you're producing — at night, in winter — you pull the difference from the grid. Smart meters track both flows separately.

The Numbers

  • Export credit: 7.5 cents/kWh for every kWh you send to the grid
  • Effective retail rate: ~$0.20/kWh in Regina (base $0.15476/kWh + GST + PST + 10% municipal). That's what every self-consumed kWh saves you.
  • Self-consumption wins: $0.20/kWh saved beats the 7.5 cent export credit by ~2.6×.

Self-Consumption Wins

Every kWh you use yourself saves ~$0.20 (the full effective rate). Exporting earns 7.5 cents. We design systems to maximize what you use directly — fastest path to payback.

How We Calculate Your Savings

Your Power Bill

We start with your actual SaskPower bills to understand your consumption patterns month by month.

Solar Production

Using local irradiance data and your roof or yard orientation, we model exactly how much your system will produce.

Net Savings

Self-consumed kWh saves ~$0.20 each (base + GST + PST + municipal). Exported kWh earns 7.5 cents. You get a year-by-year financial breakdown.

How It Works

From Consultation to Power On

A straightforward process. We handle the permits, paperwork, and heavy lifting.

We review your power bills, roof or yard, and energy goals. You get a custom proposal with exact costs, savings, and payback timeline.

What homeowners say

We had Prairie Sun install an 18kw roof top system almost two years ago and I couldn't be happier. They customized to my needs and when install time came, it was done thoroughly and professionally. Amazing team!
